Opulent Harmony – East Tamaki Kitchen & Flooring Renovation

Project Overview

After returning to her residence following years of tenancy, our client noticed signs of wear in her kitchen.

Fading colors on panels, water-damaged surfaces, and a malfunctioning range hood prompted her decision to undergo a comprehensive kitchen and flooring renovation.

Our client desired a premium finish with dark color tones, an open kitchen plan with a spacious island bar, and underfloor heating. Her wish list also included large tiled splashbacks to minimise grout areas.

Karaka Home extension – Dual Kitchen Bonanza

Project Overview

Our client Lawrence’s home in Karaka has been extended by 500sqm to accommodate their growing lifestyle. This was an excellent opportunity to increase their living spaces and add to the value of their home.

Lawrence wanted 2 kitchens. Each to be its own unique space delivering its own unique function. The main kitchen is about luxury, elegance, simplicity and spaciousness. The other kitchen served a more functional space for the heavier kitchen work to keep the day-to-day cooking smells out of the house.

Since the Ideal Renovations team were involved in the early stages as the architect was designing the extension, we were able to get a head start. Lawrence wanted an experienced and trusted renovation company to design the layout and carry out the job.

Our team was delighted to take on this project since it gave us room for creativity and functionality in two kitchens.

After The Renovation

Overall look & feel

In the main kitchen, the idea was to maintain simplicity and elegance. Which comes through in the glossy black and white contrast and the grandeur feeling throughout the space. There is a smooth and elegant finish to all cabinetry, fittings and appliances. Practical with a minimalist appeal while still feeling homely yet luxurious.

The second kitchen carries the same theme as the main kitchen but is unique with its own subway tile splashback. Working perfectly to do the heavier lifting in the cooking with its well ventilated space.

Kitchen Materials used

The 30mm engineered benchtop is from the Transcendent range at YJ Stone (ArchiPro). This is a premium marble type of stone with beautiful patterns found in the benchtop, rather than just a uniform pattern through the stone.

The main kitchen features a wall tile from the Casa Italiana range, called the Kerlite 5Plus in Iron colour. This tile is 5.5mm thick, has a rectified and chamfered finish, and has a metallic look. It is made from high-quality raw materials and is extremely durable, resistant to stains, and easy to clean.

The second kitchen features a subway tile from Tile Depot in the Casablanca White 58*242 color. The color combination of white and black high gloss acrylic boards, which are simple, easy to clean, and don’t leave fingerprints.

For the painting in both kitchens we used Resene Alabaster which due to their warm base, add a beautiful tone of white that is warm and comforting as opposed to a clinical white.

Kitchen Storage

The kitchen features deep drawers for storing dish plates, a large cabinet, and a pantry. The cabinets and pantry have an aluminum matte finish and include transparent glass display shelves. The wall-mounted cabinets have an uplift design for easy access. The kitchen also includes a cavity that can accommodate a double door refrigerator, including a water inlet for a fridge with an ice maker.

There are warm LED light strips in all cabinets, the island bar, and display shelves, as well as a black and white pendant light over the island bar from Eago light NZ.

Kitchen Fittings

The small sink in the kitchen is made of stainless steel, while the main sink is a double Hafele (Blanco silgranit) model. The kitchen and bar faucet are all in a Hansgrohe chrome color, with the main kitchen faucet having a matte black finish.

There is also an Insinkerator HC1100 Near Boiling + Cold Filtered Water Tap on the island bar which offers instant access to steaming hot water and has a swivelling spout. The tap is insulated from heat, has a child-safe spring-loaded hot water lever and a two-lever dispenser.

Additionally, it has scale reduction technology that protects heating elements and is energy-efficient, saving both time and money. The easy to replace filter has an automatic shut-off valve and an adjustable temperature dial (88˚C to 98˚C) which helps to reduce unpleasant tastes, chemicals and odors.

Kitchen appliances

The small kitchen features a Bosch 60cm 4 Burner Gas Cooktop and a Fisher & Paykel double drawer dishwasher. Additionally, there is a Robam brand embedded range hood model A830. This is one of the most powerful extractors in the market and can take heavy duty cooking smells from frying to braising right out of the house.

In the main kitchen, there is a larger Bosch 90cm 6 Burner Gas Cooktop and a Fisher & Parkel combi steam oven for a masterchef to cook up a storm. A Bosch freestanding dishwasher for the perfectly easy clean up afterwards and a Fisher & Paykel 90cm integrated range hood to keep the cooking smells and grease away.

Overall outcome

A fabulous outcome for our client with the main kitchen designed to be spacious with ample storage and a simple color scheme that is easy to maintain. The large gas cooktop and range hood serve for easy cooking and cleaning. The double sink is large enough to handle cooking preparations and post-meal dishwashing.

The small kitchen, which has a door and window, will be the main area of use. This is to reduce the spread of cooking smells throughout the house. The small kitchen is suitable for pan-frying and the Robam range hood is a powerful unit that is available in the market.

For warranties the Kitchen overall has 7 Years, accessories 10 years, appliances 2 years as provided by the supplier, all fitting 5-15 years depends on brand.

Creating Bond’s Contemporary Kitchen

Project Overview

Our client has lived in their family home in Papatoetoe for about 30 years. The kitchen is the heart of their home and a much loved space they have used consistently over the decades.

They felt the need for it to have a complete redesign to give way to a more modern, contemporary and spacious kitchen they could use for years to come. They got in touch with us and we were glad to assist.

Before The Renovation

IMG 20221011 104039

We were given very thorough requirements which helped us to create the entire design and scope of the project. We were told we had to change the flooring and layout with the objectives to modernise and create space including working areas and storage.

To be further generous with space, the client also wanted to raise the dropped ceiling to accommodate larger cabinets and remove the wall partition to make way for a double door fridge. The kitchen also needed better extraction, lighting and a new paint job.

After The Renovation

Overall look & feel

The underlying theme of “modern and spacious” runs throughout the kitchen we designed. By raising the dropped-down sections of the ceiling, changing the flooring and adding a U shaped kitchen counter – we expanded the same space to appear visually generous. The entire room also appears more illuminated with the new paint and lighting added. The space for storage, working and moving is also much larger while remaining easy to clean and maintain.

Kitchen Materials - Countertop

The star of the show is the U-shaped 30mm thickness engineered benchtop from Uniquartz that we installed. This is a “Diamond Black” colour that fits perfectly where a darker looking surface is needed. The dark grey background has inset flecks of black and silver bringing the surface to life by adding contrast and dimensionality. This is durable and easy to maintain making it the perfect choice for family kitchens.

Kitchen Materials - Walls & Flooring

The feature wall is a 30mm x 60mm tile splash-back made of Novo White Hex Gloss supplied by Tile Space. This is a decorative 3D ceramic tile in a rectangle format with a hexagon pattern making it uniquely appealing and super easy for cleaning.

The flooring is  60mm x 60mm floor tiles from Value Tiles & Flooring. With a patterned tile look that emulates timber flooring. We also repainted the interiors with a matching shade of Dulux white on white interior paint which is renowned for its quality and long lasting finish.

Kitchen Storage & Cabinets

We installed large cabinets underneath the U shaped benchtop for easy accessibility and maintenance. The U shaped large benchtop also provides plenty of storage area for everyday kitchen accessories like the toaster, rice cooker and air fryer.

We created a storage area above the fridge cavity and installed wall hung cabinets by raising the low ceilings and making use of the extra space. We also added a cavity for the microwave giving it a neat look.

The cabinetry material is an 18mm Melteca board MDF material in “Snow Drift Satin” to match the white shades. For the cabinets and drawers, we used Hafele (a premium German supplier) with soft close runners and handle-free design for a smooth finish.

Kitchen Fittings & Appliances

We put a large black stainless steel sink from Trade Depot to match the countertop and add to the luxurious look of the kitchen. The undermount sink design has a seamless edge giving more space, a neat finish and ease of cleaning with a simple wipe. We added an Acquatica all pressure mixer from Renoarts.

We created space for double door fridge by removing the old pantry partition wall and raising the ceiling. A gas cooktop was installed replacing the old electric cooker and letting our client pursue her masterchef dreams! The extractor which previously vented through the roof was impractical and messy so we replaced it with a neat in-set extractor which vents correctly through the wall – completely removing all grease and cooking smells from the house.

We also installed brand new power double sockets repositioned to the new kitchen design for easy accessibility and practicality. Entirely new LED downlights from Phillips now illuminate this beautiful new kitchen.

Overall outcome

Our client was absolutely ecstatic with the result – not only did we deliver on practicality and design, the amount of space they had gained was generous! By removing the partition wall and raising the ceiling, we reinvented the concept of space for this kitchen. The choice of tile patterns were much loved for their uniqueness and practicality. We were able to deliver their dream kitchen well within budget and packed with high quality materials and accessories. Our client has 5 investment properties and want us to renovate those in the new year!

The whole kitchen has a 5 year warranty and the accessories and interior painting have a 7 year warranty. The appliances come with a 2 years supplier warranty as well.

Creating Mele’s Dream Kitchen

Before the renovation

mmexport1667605451219

We had some considerations at hand including the fact that they had the kitchen flooring redone already by another company. This is usually undertaken in the end, so we had to work around this challenge. We also needed to deliver a quality outcome within a set budget together with modern appliances, ample storage and an easy to maintain workspace.

As you can see in the “pre-renovation” photos, the kitchen previously was quite run down, with an old cooktop transferring heat to the close wall, no range hood to extract the cooking smells, a tiny sink, not enough storage and a dimly lit ambience. Our team loves a good challenge and we jumped on the chance to create Mele’s dream kitchen.

After the renovation

Overall look & feel

We modernised the kitchen with a simple yet elegant theme of black, white and gray colours – using linear and bold patterns to give a feel of clean sophistication and spaciousness. We chose a “Cosmos Grey” benchtop made of engineered marble cut to 30mm thickness. The walls are linear patterned panels in “Snowdrift Satin” which make the main feature an easy to clean splashback. The overall theme also aligns with the colours of the flooring panels which we had to build the kitchen around (since it is usually put in last but was already pre-existing for this project).

Kitchen Materials

We used engineered marble stone for the cooktops since it is easy to maintain and both heat and water proof which makes it durable and perfect for kitchens. The walls have tiles with bold linear patterns providing a striking look while making them easy to clean. For the cabinets, we used Melteca MDF boards of 18mm which give a decorative finish within budget and provide long lasting durability and ease of maintenance. The interiors are painted with premium Dulux paints.

IMG 20221031 095905 edit 2003429324755235 scaled
Kitchen Storage

The storage in the kitchen needed clever consideration and strategic placement. The existing space had not been utilised wisely in the previous layout with a joist in the old ceiling for the kitchen wall hung cabinet causing a lot of dust to build up.

We redrew the entire storage layout and provided wall hung cabinets for storage of crockery and glassware and a spacious food pantry cupboard. Simple and elegant white Hafele accessories built in Germany deliver on style and practicality. Soft close drawers with no handles give a smooth finish and functional usage. By using a plywood carcase, water damage is avoided to the cabinets. We created practical spaces with cavities for fridge and microwave for easy placement and reachability for the family.

A large benchtop gives more space for preparation and cooking. The smaller benchtop works perfectly for kitchen appliances like rice cooker, air fryer and toaster.

Kitchen Fittings & Appliances

We fitted a bigger sink as per our client’s requirements using Blanco in a metallic gray colour to match the theme. A double spout provides the option of a fitted tap spout and a pull out spray for increased washing convenience. The sink has an undermount design which allows the water to be wiped into the sink.

We sourced all the kitchen appliances from our trusted supplier Trade Depot who provide affordable quality and variety. All appliances were fitted perfectly into well considered spaces for the dishwasher, induction cooktop and rangehood.

We powered up the kitchen with Philips LED downlights and brand new power sockets arranged thoughtfully to the new layout.

Orakei Kitchen

Project Overview

Our client wanted a classy and elegant kitchen that has an open plan and makes good use of the beautiful space while complimenting the open feeling from the large glass doors and windows.

We were more than happy to deliver!

Kitchen design and theme

For the overall look and design, we used a rich glossy black combined with ash coloured oak wood. We added a touch of gold with inset lighting into the design. These colours beautifully complement each other while creating contrast and highlights. We installed a classic island bar and gave it a touch of utility by adding storage on both sides. The island bar forms a beautiful centrepiece to the entire kitchen. With added ceiling and underfloor lighting to create a warm and welcoming feeling to sit down and relax with a drink or chat with the family while making dinner.

Benchtop & Counters

The benchtop is engineered luxurious black marble with high strength and heat resistance. Glossy finish tile splashbacks complete the look and are very easy to clean and remove grease from cooking. A large 900mm cooktop provides versatility and space to the master chef who likes to whip up a big family meal using various pots and pans together! Under the counters, we applied a thoughtful touch by using toe kicks so our client can be closer to the counter and avoid hunching over while working. It also makes better use of space and creates easier access. Underfloor lighting adds a classy touch and highlights the space available.

Cabinets & Shelving

We did the cabinets and shelving in ash coloured oakwood thorughout the kitchen. Plenty of different functional storage spaces are provided. A classy wine rack to flaunt their wine collection. Display shelves and hanging cabinets were installed to maximise storage space. A big pantry was also installed for all the food storage needs. We added LED lighting around all the display shelves to accentuate the oak wood. For the drawers we used a handle less design which provides a seamless look of continuity and a polished finish. We used Hafele who are the leading specialist for kitchen hardware and fittings.

Kitchen Appliances & Fittings

We used Bosch premium kitchen appliances from our supplier Kitchen Things. They have a rich black colour that embeds with the pantry cabinet colour to create a smooth and continuous look. A water inlet was created in the fridge cavity so it is ready to connect to the ice maker function in the fridge. We used an integrated Bosch range hood built into the ceiling instead of a canopy range hood as it embeds beautifully into the entire look of the kitchen, looks discreet and saves valuable space. A Blanco undermount kitchen sink offers simplified sink cleaning and space-saving efficiency as it is installed directly and discreetly into the countertop itself.

Kitchen Lighting

We completed the kitchen with soft ceiling lighting that compliments the colours and theme of the kitchen. We strategically placed LED lighting throughout the display shelves and toe kicks to highlight spaces as well as make them easy to maintain fo the client. We also installed power sockets in the island bar to provide the convenience of chargin your devices while relaxing in the kitchen with a drink.
