Innovative storage solutions for modern kitchen designs in NZ

A kitchen island is a splendid storage solution for limited-space modern kitchen designs in NZ

As the most dynamic area in your home that often serves as a socialising hub, your kitchen is likely to see a lot of activity. So, small modern kitchen designs in NZ have to work twice as hard to optimise functionality and traffic flow. Plus, they should focus on visual zoning to avert the eye from an irregular footprint with colours, clean lines and light.

Whether you want a coordinated feel or more personality and flair, going lighter is your best bet to create a space-expanding backdrop for focal points and surfaces. By distracting the eye from the corners and blurring perimeter lines, this ‘classic’ technique alters the visual perception of the room size and lends itself perfectly to modern kitchen designs in NZ.

A similar effect can be achieved by choosing furniture with curved edges. Here are some innovative options that can soften the look, eliminate angles and end up with a less bulky design.

workspace and a dining area

Multi-functional furniture for modern kitchen designs in NZ

When working with limited space, you can optimise its efficiency by choosing custom-built pieces that can multitask. For instance, a kitchen island can triple up as a table, storage unit and extra worktop – or even a room divider. Can you believe it?

Other innovative furniture solutions for modern kitchen designs in NZ that save floor space include:

  • Wall-mounted folding table or breakfast bar
  • Pull-out table (slides into a drawer compartment or cabinet)
  • Slide-out cutting board or worktop for food prep
  • Nesting tables that can be grouped or used separately
  • Extendable table for seating more people when needed

Lucite and acrylic furniture for a breezy look

For a lightweight feel paired with durability and easy maintenance, you can opt for acrylic tops, legs, supports or custom-made lucite furniture. Their functionality will take your modern kitchen design in NZ to the next level.

With light passing through, acrylic pieces and whatever rests on their top seem to be floating mid-air to maximise open floor space. Besides, you are not limited to crystal-clear designs – they can feature some colour and be moulded to any shape, functioning as a stylish and more resistant alternative to glass.

Storage, mobility and accessibility

Maximising storage is probably the most overused phrase with modern kitchen designs in NZ. While it’s a nice thing to have in the tiniest dining room, adding more storage at the expense of mobility and flow isn’t a good solution. That’s why the most innovative kitchen renovations space out essential elements and fixtures so they are easily accessible and won’t stick out too much.

Upgrading a small space means you will likely have to keep storage at a higher or lower level than what you find comfortable. That’s why slide-out cabinet and pantry organisers are the epitome of convenience when looking for the most efficient modern kitchen designs in NZ. They will keep all your cookware and utensils streamlined, accessible and nice-looking – without straining your back or having to dig around.

Do I need consent to renovate my bathroom in NZ?

Bathroom wall tiling

Let’s forget about the costs for a minute. When considering bathroom alterations, the rules to comply with are the homeowner’s second-top concern. So, what you want answered before predicting how your finished renovation might look is: Do I need consent to renovate my bathroom in NZ?

If you hire a designer or a licensed building practitioner when planning a bathroom renovation in Auckland, they are likely to answer this question – and any other enquiries you may have along the way. Otherwise, checking with your local Council should be the starting point before proceeding with the planned works.

The quick takeaway homeowners can grab for basic jobs: If you envision maintenance repairs or installing a new unit in the footprint of an old one, you don’t need consent for your bathroom upgrade.

More structurally significant jobs can be trickier. Some decisions are up to the individual Council, rendering consent a grey area. Other changes and adding extras always require building consent due to a major shift away from the original room layout.

When do I need consent to renovate my bathroom in NZ?

If you’re about to revamp a space, the general scope and complexity of your project are the factors that may necessitate obtaining permits. When you are wondering, “Do I need consent to renovate my bathroom in NZ?” the very next question is whether the area is changing structurally or you plan to add new sanitary fixtures. Such works can’t be completed without consent.

Examples:

  • Altering walls and doorways/removing walls to modify room size
  • Partitioning off a space to add an ensuite
  • Converting a room to an extra toilet or bathroom
  • Wet area tiling
  • Installing new drains

That said, taking out or moving fixtures without increasing their number lets you rearrange the bathroom layout with no consent needed. Thus, you can reposition a bath, replace it with a shower unit or move a toilet within an existing space. Repairs, minor alterations and extensions to drains require no consent but must be done or supervised by an authorised specialist.

a_newly_renovated_bathroom_with_mod

Bottom line

In short, revamping an outdated bathroom to give it a modern appeal or replacing something like-for-like without an increase in plumbing fixtures comes with no extra hassle of applying for a consent.

Adding another bathroom to your floor plan, converting a closet or laundry room to a bathroom or expanding your home to have multiple bathrooms are all extensive jobs. However, the benefits outweigh the extra expenses and time for getting a building consent.

Whether you keep your upgrades simple or go for a new bathroom in Auckland, it will enhance your home’s value and add functionality and comfort. Outdated spaces are perceived as unsanitary and are a turnoff for most buyers. Let us guess: you don’t want that.

Another popular idea is to renovate your bathroom with a ‘sanctuary’ mindset inspired by the latest ‘spa-like’ or ‘cocooning’ trends. This may call for space reconfiguration, so you do need tips to renovate a bathroom in NZ.

Anyway, view it as a starting point for your dream bathroom rather than an inconvenience.

Top 5 Tips for Small Kitchen Designs in NZ: Clever Ideas for Maximising Your Space

TIp 1: Maximising Small Kitchen Space: Playing with Height and Concealing Clutter

As kitchen renovators, we swear by two key techniques that make a world of difference: height-focused storage and concealing clutter.

Factor Height into Your Storage & Other Nifty Storage Hacks

Achieve a high-end feel and visual spaciousness with full-height cabinetry. By extending cabinets to the ceiling and painting in neutral shades, you create a seamless look while preventing dust and clutter buildup. In small kitchens, every inch of space counts. Say hello to magnetic racks, perfect for organising your ever-growing collection of spice jars. Hanging shelves not only save space but also add a touch of rustic charm. Stackable containers keep your pantry tidy, ensuring you never lose sight of those cherished Kiwi goodies.

Clever Clutter Concealment

Embrace clever concealment to keep essentials at hand while maintaining style and space.

Utilise pull-out drawers and shelves behind cabinet doors, and add artistic flair with open shelving to showcase favourite kitchen items. Ingeniously hideaway elements like extractor fans and cooker hoods within walls or upper cabinets for a clean, uncluttered ambiance.

TIP 2: Opt for Slim-Sized Appliances and Cabinets in your Small Kitchen Design

When dealing with a small kitchen design, every inch matters. Choosing slim-sized appliances and cabinets can be a game-changer, maximising your space without compromising on functionality. As Kiwi interior experts, we’ve gathered some practical ideas to help you make the most of your petite kitchen.

Streamlined Appliances

Swap bulky appliances for their slimmer counterparts. Look for slim-sized refrigerators, dishwashers, and ovens that still pack a punch in performance but take up less precious space.

Narrow Cabinets

Opt for tall and narrow cabinets to capitalise on vertical space. These cabinets provide ample storage for pantry items and utensils while minimising the kitchen’s footprint. Consider pull-out racks and rotating shelves, which offer easy access to items without the need for extensive bending or stretching.

Wall Mounted Solutions

Maximise wall space with wall-mounted storage solutions. Install floating shelves or magnetic strips to keep frequently used items within reach. Wall-mounted racks for pots, pans, and utensils free up valuable drawer and countertop space, adding a touch of culinary elegance to your kitchen.

Sliding doors and Pocket Doors

Traditional swinging doors can eat up space. Consider installing sliding or pocket doors for pantries and cabinets. These space-saving alternatives ensure that you won’t need to compromise between an open kitchen and functional storage.

TIP 3: Strategic Use of Color, Light, and Finishes

Simplicity in Finishes and Colors

When it comes to finishes, decor, and colours, remember that in a small kitchen, they hold more prominence and influence. To achieve a harmonious and uncluttered look, opt for simplicity by limiting the variety of finishes and decorative elements.

Maximising Light with Minimalism

Dark or cluttered spaces can visually shrink a kitchen, making a minimalist aesthetic the perfect choice to maximise light and create an expansive feel. Swap out big light fixtures for recessed lighting to illuminate the space evenly. Keep tall cabinets and bulky appliances away from natural light sources to maintain a bright and airy atmosphere.

Guiding the Eye with Cohesive Colours

Choosing a neutral colour palette or sticking to one cohesive colour scheme will guide the eyes smoothly across surfaces, making the area appear larger than it is.

Incorporating Contrasts and Pops of Color

If you crave a touch of contrast or bold pops of colour, don’t worry—there are creative ways to incorporate these elements into your small kitchen design in NZ without overwhelming the space.

  • Consider a two-tone scheme, introducing brighter or contrasting colours for upper or lower cabinets for an eye-catching effect.
  • Highlight the back of open storage or shelving with a vibrant hue to add depth and character to the space.
  • Use an accent colour selectively in specific areas, such as the countertop, backsplash, ceiling, feature wall, or window treatments, to add a playful touch without overpowering the overall design.

By strategically employing colour, light, and finishes, you can elevate your small kitchen design to new heights, creating an environment that feels spacious, inviting, and uniquely yours.

TIP 4: Make Your Dream Kitchen Island a Reality

Discover the surprising functionality of a well-designed kitchen island in tight spaces. In single-wall or open-plan layouts, a thoughtfully placed island can elevate your small kitchen design in NZ. Optimise its use by integrating appliances, adding storage, and creating a versatile eating and social area.

Craft a compact island with a focus on its primary functions, such as extra prep space. Integrate appliances like a small dishwasher or compact microwave for added efficiency and style. Transform your island into a multi-functional centrepiece by designing a breakfast bar with comfortable stools. This cosy spot becomes perfect for quick meals and casual gatherings with loved ones.

Envision your dream kitchen island with creativity and planning. With the right design, your small kitchen can become a stylish and functional haven where culinary delights and warm memories intertwine.

TIP 5: Bringing Nature Indoors: Embrace Nature in Your Kitchen

Make your small kitchen feel like a natural oasis by bringing the outdoors inside. Here are some simple ways to do it:

  • Natural Materials: Use materials like wood and stone in your kitchen design. These textures give a cosy and rustic feeling, just like being in nature.
  • Sunlit Spaces: Create a sunny spot in your kitchen near a window. It’s a perfect place to enjoy the daylight while having your meals.
  • Nature-Inspired Art: Decorate your kitchen walls with pictures of beautiful landscapes, flowers, or animals. They’ll bring a touch of nature’s beauty into your kitchen.
  • Herb Gardens: Grow a small herb garden on your windowsill. It adds a splash of green and fresh flavours to your cooking.
  • Earthy Colours: Choose colours like warm browns, deep greens, and calming blues. They’ll make your kitchen feel soothing and peaceful, just like nature.

By embracing nature in your kitchen, you’ll create a relaxing and refreshing space where cooking becomes a joyful and rejuvenating experience.

How to sail through kitchen renovation costs in NZ

When upgrading your kitchen, a reasonable starting point is deciding whether you are relatively happy with what you have or determined to make the space work for you from scratch. Next, assess the potential of your kitchen and renovation costs in NZ and consider different options to figure out which is more feasible or worthy of investment.

Seems like a daunting task? Only to the untrained eye!

Surface sizes, materials and the type of job to be done are only a glimpse into what goes into kitchen renovation costs in NZ

Kitchen renovations come in all sizes – from small fixes and touch-ups to full-gut projects in older homes that involve replacing the drywall and insulation. When dated finishes, fixtures or appliances have to make way for a modern look, it can be a DIY job. Hiring a professional for only some parts of the project is an option if ripping out old floors or assembling cabinetry is what you are eager to tackle on your own. But if you have a larger-scale remodel where modifications to the existing structure are required, you’ll need a building consent and a registered builder/electrician/plumber to do the work.

So, a lot of things determine the timeframe and the final kitchen renovation cost in NZ. For a clearer perspective, it is best to get expert help early on.

Do sizes and materials matter the most

While square footage is the key value used in online NZ kitchen renovation cost estimators, it isn’t always a multiplier. More often than not, it’s a limiting or confusing factor. That number will do you no justice if you have:

  • Odd-shaped areas
  • Angled walls or those that are not plumb
  • Openings or corners that are out of square
  • Water-swollen structures
  • Uneven floors

Estimating kitchen renovation costs in NZ is much more than just doing the math using a bunch of measurements and a list of materials. In cases of uneven-shaped rooms and walls, even creating a level paint line may be problematic, let alone installing kitchen cabinets. Weird floor plans and awkward spaces may require custom-built pieces, and standard-sized appliances may not fit, which results in a significantly higher price tag.

Consider the number of items to replace, add and remove

Whether you need a quick upgrade or can manage without a fully functioning kitchen for longer is the common consideration when weighing your options and deciding on hiring professionals – which is an essential part of kitchen renovation costs in NZ. Depending on how many outdated or faulty fixtures, cabinets, appliances or surfaces you have, swapping these out for better-performing counterparts can be a breeze, a headache, an affordable option or a budget-buster.

And remember, cabinets and appliances are the most expensive part.

So, your kitchen makeover can be as simple as minor repairs, cabinet refacing or:

  • Plumbing, electrical and appliance upgrades
  • Cabinet and countertop replacement
  • Adding a backsplash, kitchen island or new flooring
Surface sizes, materials and the type of job to be done are only a glimpse into what goes into kitchen renovation costs in NZ

If you are planning to reinstall your existing appliances after changing your kitchen’s layout, style or colour scheme, it’s a thrifty move. If you have your mind set on buying new and shiny tech wonders, these could account for the lion’s share of your kitchen renovation costs in NZ.

At Ideal Renovations, we can help you do the math with a free on-site consultation. Schedule it for your kitchen project!

Additionally, they wanted to remove the outdated wallpaper that had started peeling off, allowing us to embrace a fresh canvas. By removing the drop-in bath, we aimed to maximise the available space, ensuring a more open and inviting atmosphere. To enhance comfort, a dedicated seating area within the shower was also part of our design vision.

Small Bathroom Renovations Ideas: Transforming Your Space into a Stylish Oasis

Small_Bathroom_Renovations_design_Ideas_real_photo

Reimagining the Layout of your Small Bathroom for Maximum Efficiency

When it comes to small bathroom renovations in NZ, rethinking the layout can make a significant difference. Consider these ideas to optimise your space:

Installing Double Showers and Pedestal Sinks

Say goodbye to traditional bathtubs and standard sinks. Opting for double showers can save space and add a touch of luxury. Imagine the convenience of having dual shower heads and the flexibility it provides for you and your partner. It’s a practical solution that also creates a spa-like atmosphere. Additionally, replacing a standard sink with a sleek pedestal unit not only opens up visual space but also creates a more streamlined design. With its compact size, a pedestal sink can make a small bathroom feel more spacious and airy.

Utilising Floating Shelves for Extra Storage

Maximise storage without sacrificing space by incorporating floating shelves. These ingenious additions provide functionality while maintaining a minimal footprint. Consider the number and placement of the shelves to suit your needs. Install them above the toilet or next to the vanity to store towels, toiletries, and other bathroom essentials. Floating shelves not only provide practical storage but also add a modern and stylish touch to your small bathroom.

Brightening Up with Lighting Fixtures and Mirrors

Illuminate your small bathroom with strategic lighting fixtures to create a sense of spaciousness. Accent lights add a cosy ambiance, while mirrors not only give the illusion of more space but also serve as a captivating design element. Consider installing wall sconces or overhead lights to brighten up the room. Additionally, a large mirror or multiple mirrors can reflect light and visually expand the space, making your small bathroom feel larger and more inviting. For example, placing a mirror opposite a window will reflect natural light, making the room appear brighter and more open.

Embracing Color and Texture for an Inviting Vibe

Small bathroom renovations in NZ can be enhanced by adding colour and texture to the walls and tiles. Consider these ideas for a transformative effect:

Vibrant Blues and Greens for an Energising Atmosphere

Step away from stark white walls and infuse your bathroom with vibrant blues and greens. This refreshing colour palette creates a harmonious and invigorating ambiance, perfect for starting your day. Consider painting or tiling an accent wall in a deep blue shade or incorporating green tiles into your shower area. Complement the vibrant colours with neutral tones like white or beige for a balanced and visually appealing look. Adding texture through wallpapers or textured tiles can further enhance the depth and visual interest in your small bathroom.

Exploring Complementary Hues and Subtle Contrasts

For a more unique and less predictable effect, consider pairing complementary hues. Experiment with shades that are opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as oranges and blues or purples and yellows. These combinations can create a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere in your small bathroom. Additionally, using different shades of the same colour can create subtle yet bold statements, giving your bathroom an exclusive look. For instance, consider using different shades of grey on the walls to add depth and sophistication to the space.

Playing with Tiles for Added Dimension

Incorporating various types of tiles can add depth and visual interest to your small bathroom. Consider using marble tiles for a classic look on one wall and wood-like tiles for a modern touch on another. Alternatively, mosaic tiles in different patterns and textures can create a stunning focal point in your bathroom. Be mindful of the scale and size of the tiles to ensure they work harmoniously with the limited space, creating a visually appealing and unique design. For example, you can create a feature wall using patterned tiles behind the vanity or opt for a mosaic tile backsplash to add a pop of colour and texture. Check out our case study here on how we used tiles to create a luxurious feel in a small space.

Bringing Nature Indoors for a Fresh Feel

Incorporate the beauty of nature in your small bathroom renovation ideas with these tips:

Potted Plants for Natural Elegance

Introduce potted plants into your NZ bathroom to infuse a sense of freshness and vitality. Choose low-maintenance options like succulents, ferns, or peace lilies that thrive in humid environments. These plants not only add a touch of greenery but also serve as natural air purifiers, improving the air quality in your small bathroom. Place them strategically on countertops, windowsills, or even hang them from the ceiling to maximise space and bring a calming and natural element to your oasis. For example, a hanging plant in a corner can add visual interest and create a soothing atmosphere.

Natural Materials for an Organic Look

Incorporating natural materials in your small bathroom can create a sense of warmth and tranquillity. Consider using materials like stone, wood, or bamboo for the vanity countertop, flooring, or even wall cladding. These materials add texture and visual appeal while maintaining a connection to nature. For instance, a stone countertop paired with a wooden mirror frame can create a rustic and inviting atmosphere. Incorporate natural elements such as seashells or pebbles as decorative accents or in mosaic tiles for a coastal-inspired look.

Natural Light and Views

Make the most of natural light and views if your small bathroom allows it. If privacy permits, consider installing a larger window or a skylight to bring in more natural light, making the space feel brighter and more open. Take advantage of any outdoor views by positioning the bathtub or vanity to capture the scenery. Natural light not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also contributes to a positive and refreshing bathing experience.

Bathroom Materials

We carefully selected materials that combined durability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal that we shared over email with Katherine and got her thoughts and approvals.

The shower cabin featured an Englefield 1m*1m acrylic shower set, complemented by an easy-clean shower drain to ensure hassle-free maintenance for tenants. The shower tray and lino on the walls provided longevity and minimised the risk of water leakage. The addition of a new sliding door further enhanced the spaciousness of the ensuite.

The floor tiles were chosen with waterproofing underneath, providing peace of mind, especially since the bathroom was located on the second level. The selected tiles, Dolomite White (600 X 600mm) from Tile Depot, showcased a gorgeous porcelain replica of dolomite marble, featuring soft light venation and granular patterns. This versatile white-based tile, with its easy-care matt surface is perfect for both residential interior floors and walls.

In terms of the bathroom walls, Aqualine GIB was utilised, ensuring a sturdy and reliable foundation. To enhance waterproofing, Technokolla waterproof products were applied, providing long-lasting protection against moisture.
To complete the overall look, Resene Alabaster interior paint was used, adding a touch of brightness and creating a cohesive backdrop for the chosen materials.

Bathroom Vanity & Storage

We incorporated functional and stylish solutions for vanity and storage to make it rental-ready. The 900mm freestanding vanity from Renoarts became a centrepiece, offering both good looks and ample storage capacity. With its double drawers and oak colour, the vanity provides essential storage space for tenants. This allowed for organised placement of bathroom essentials, ensuring a clutter-free and tidy environment.

To add an element of comfort and luxury, an 800*600 heated towel rail was installed. This addition not only provided a convenient spot to hang towels but also ensured they remained warm and cosy, ready for use.

The carefully chosen vanity and the inclusion of a heated towel rail contributed to the overall efficiency and convenience of the space. The integration of these elements reflected the commitment to providing reliable and high-quality solutions, further enhancing the value of the rental property.

Bathroom Fittings & Fixtures

We meticulously selected fittings and fixtures for Katherine’s renovated bathroom, prioritising functionality and budget.

Illuminating the bathroom with Phillip LED downlights created a warm and inviting ambiance while offering energy-efficient lighting. The 900mm round LED mirror with an auto demist function added a touch of sophistication, ensuring a clear reflection even in humid conditions. A power socket conveniently located on the side of the vanity provided an easy charging solution for electronic devices, catering to the tenants needs.

The bathroom boasted high-quality tapwares from Methven, a renowned New Zealand brand. The Englefield back-to-wall style rimless toilet was selected for its sleek design and hygienic benefits, making cleaning easier and maintaining overall hygiene. To fulfil ventilation requirements, an independent extract fan was installed, ensuring proper airflow and moisture control.

This feature not only met residential standards but also catered to potential rental needs, ensuring a comfortable and fresh bathroom environment.

The combination of fittings and fixtures highlighted our commitment to providing a comprehensive and enjoyable bathroom experience for Katherine’s future tenants.

Top 10 Trends for kitchen renovation in Auckland for 2023

Do you fancy something that gives your kitchen more practicality? Curious about what black can do to your walls and cabinets?  Are you looking to give your kitchen a fresh new look and renovate for a smart touch?

If you’re planning a kitchen renovation in Auckland, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll explore the top 10 trends that will inspire your project and transform your kitchen into a stylish and functional space. Whether you’re seeking practicality, elegance, or cutting-edge technology, these trends are sure to leave you with a beautiful hub for your family.

All ideas can be winsome for kitchen renovation in Auckland. But 2023 has shifted some trends and is ready to welcome new additions, colours and furniture arrangements. We’ve compiled a list of top-10 things that can inspire your next project and leave you with a beautiful space for your family.

Black islands, statement-making lighting and smart appliances are huge trends for kitchen renovation in Auckland in 2023

1. Sustainable Materials for a Greener Kitchen

In today’s world, sustainability is becoming increasingly important, even in the realm of kitchen renovations in Auckland. Homeowners are now embracing eco-friendly options for kitchen counters, cabinets and countertops. Not only do these materials add a touch of natural beauty to your kitchen, but they also contribute to a greener planet. Also, making use of good lighting and other eco-friendly methods such as gas cooking are on the rise.

2. Embracing Technology for a Smart Kitchen

As technology continues to advance, so does the world of kitchen appliances. A kitchen renovation provides the perfect opportunity to incorporate smart devices that enhance convenience and efficiency. You could look into smart devices that pair with your phone to have more control over appliances like the fridge, oven and lighting. These tech-savvy additions significantly enhance your daily cooking routines and streamline your kitchen experience.

3. Mixing Materials for an Eclectic Look

Though you may think one material is best for a consistent kitchen renovation, putting blends together can create additional focal points and facilitate style makeovers. Gone are the days when kitchens had to adhere to a single material or style. In 2023, Auckland homeowners are breaking free from traditional design norms and mixing materials to create unique and eclectic spaces. Combining wood, metal, and marble can add visual interest within your kitchen. Whether you prefer a rustic-industrial vibe or a blend of modern and classic elements, mixing materials allows you to express your personal style.

4. Moody Colors to Set the Tone

If you’re craving a bold and dramatic look for your kitchen, consider incorporating moody colors. While an all-black kitchen might seem daunting, it can create a striking contrast when paired with navy blue or charcoal grey cabinets. Opting for black islands and appliances can add sophistication and a touch of glamour to your space, making it a true showstopper.

5. Statement Backsplashes for Visual Impact

Backsplashes have evolved from simple functional elements to eye-catching design features. A statement backsplash made of unique stone or patterned tiles can elevate the aesthetics of your kitchen. Whether you choose vibrant colours or metallic finishes, a showy backsplash adds personality and becomes a focal point that ties the design elements together.

6. Concealed Appliances for Streamlined Elegance

In smaller kitchens, maintaining a streamlined and clutter-free appearance is essential. That’s where concealed appliances come into play. By integrating your dishwasher and other appliances into your cabinetry, you can achieve a seamless and cohesive look. Additional panels and shelving can be added to create a harmonious blend, making your kitchen both stylish and functional. A smooth finish always adds to the spaciousness.

7. Large Sinks for Added Convenience

New Zealanders love to entertain, and the kitchen is often the heart of the home. Incorporating large, deep sinks in your Auckland kitchen renovation offers practicality and convenience. Say goodbye to piled-up dishes and welcome a sink that can accommodate your cookware effortlessly. With reduced splashing and ample space, washing dishes becomes a breeze, allowing you to spend more time with your loved ones.

8. Open Shelving for a Personal Touch

Open shelving is gaining popularity among Auckland homeowners due to its practicality and design appeal. Showcase your cherished silverware, unique pottery, and decorative items on open shelves. Not only does this add a personal touch to your kitchen, but it also creates an illusion of more space. This budget-friendly alternative to traditional cabinetry adds a touch of elegance and allows you to showcase your latest kitchen additions with pride.

9. Statement Lighting to Set the Mood

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating an inviting atmosphere in your Auckland kitchen. Make a statement with oversized pendant lights, chandeliers, or glowing orbs. Whether you opt for bold and dramatic fixtures or elegant and understated designs, your lighting choices can enhance the overall ambiance of your kitchen. Illuminate your space with style and create a welcoming environment for cooking and entertaining.

10. Double Islands for Functionality and Style

If you have ample space, consider incorporating double islands into your kitchen renovation. This design choice not only creates separate areas for cooking and dining but also adds an element of luxury and convenience. Transform your kitchen into a versatile space that accommodates all your needs.

From Outdated to Outstanding: A Stunning Auckland Bathroom Renovation

Project Overview

We had the opportunity to renovate the common bathroom for our client Kerry. Their bathroom had seen many years of family use and was much in need of refurbishment. Due to the wear and tear, it had the feeling of an older space that needed a modern touch.

Our project manager, Geoffrey along with his talented team of renovation specialists was more than happy to deliver on Kerry’s needs for a modern look with spaciousness that is long lasting and easy to maintain.

Before The Renovation

The client’s bathroom was showing signs of age. The vanity panels were quite worn out and in need of replacement. The shower, although functional, looked outdated with its curved glass and tight space which Kerry wanted to make bigger so we suggested a rectangle space.

To do away with the outdated look, we suggested the use of full tiles to give a more contemporary style.

Along the lines of keeping it stylish, Kerry also wanted to improve the toilet system with a more efficient one. The bathroom lacked proper ventilation, leading to excess moisture. We suggested a good ventilation system that could effectively remove moisture from the wet areas, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment.

Considering the initial condition of the bathroom and the client’s specific requests, our renovation project aimed to address these issues and create a functional and visually appealing bathroom that would meet the client’s needs and preferences.

After The Renovation

The carefully chosen elements not only optimise storage but also add an appealing and luxurious touch to the renovated bathroom.

With the careful selection of fixtures, fittings, and appliances, we created a bathroom that seamlessly combines style, practicality, and luxury. Each element contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal while fulfilling essential functional requirements.

The shower area features a 10mm thick tempered retaining glass for the pull-out door, providing both safety and durability. Its sleek and contemporary appearance adds a touch of elegance, while the spacious size of 1.1m x 1.1m ensures a comfortable showering experience.

To ensure efficient drainage, we incorporated the AllProof shower drain system from Reece Plumbing, effectively collecting and removing water to prevent any potential accumulation. Technokolla waterproofing products were used to provide a long-lasting and water-resistant foundation, protecting against moisture and potential damage.
For the walls, a captivating combination of dark and light colours was achieved with Notion Black 600 X 600 wall tiles from Tile Depot. These tiles boast a striking stone-like character with a soft linear grain, adding depth and visual interest. Their R10 anti-slip rating ensures both style and safety.

The bathroom floor features MG Onyx White Polished tiles, also from Tile Depot, which create a luxurious and indulgent atmosphere with their smooth polished finish.

Completing the look, Resene Alabaster interior paint adds a touch of sophistication and serves as a clean backdrop to highlight the architectural features and materials.

Bathroom Vanity & Storage

For efficient storage, we incorporated a 900mm freestanding vanity, the Mia white model from Reece. This vanity not only provides ample storage space but also boasts a stylish design. With its double drawers, it offers convenient organisation and accessibility, allowing for a clutter-free bathroom environment. The Mia white vanity exudes a sense of elegance and modernity, seamlessly blending with the overall aesthetic of the renovated space.

To add a touch of luxury and practicality, we installed the Posh Solus Towel Ladder, an 800mm x 600mm heated towel rail and towel rack. This combination provides both functionality and a visually pleasing element. The heated towel rail ensures warm and cosy towels while the towel rack offers a convenient storage option, keeping towels within easy reach.

To enhance the overall ambiance and functionality of the bathroom, we included the Broadway LED mirror measuring 900mm. This mirror not only brightens the room but also offers excellent visibility for makeup application. Its handy auto-demist function ensures a clear reflection even in steamy conditions, providing convenience and ease of use.

Bathroom Fittings & Fixtures

The selection of fixtures and fittings played a crucial role in transforming the bathroom into a captivating and functional space. To ensure a well-lit and inviting ambiance, we incorporated Phillip LED downlights. These energy-efficient lights provide a warm and pleasant illumination, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the bathroom.

To create a clean and crisp backdrop, Resene Alabaster interior painting was applied. This versatile shade adds a touch of sophistication and allows the architectural features and fittings to stand out.

The tapware selection came from the Reece Base series, offering both functionality and style. These well-crafted fixtures blend seamlessly with the bathroom’s overall design.

For enhanced hygiene and ease of maintenance, the Posh Domaine back-to-wall Rimless toilet from Reece was chosen. This toilet design not only reduces cleaning effort but also ensures a more hygienic experience.

To provide comfort and convenience, the bathroom features a 3-in-1 heater that incorporates lighting, heating, and ventilation functionalities. Additionally, an independent extract fan was installed to fulfil ventilation requirements, catering to both residential and potential rental needs.

Overall outcome

The final outcome of the bathroom renovation project has brought about a remarkable transformation, leaving the client delighted with the results. The new bathroom boasts a completely different style, exuding a fresh and invigorating ambience.

One of the most notable improvements is the increased sense of space. The room now feels significantly larger than before, with more area around the vanity and an expanded shower space. This enhancement not only adds functionality but also creates a more open and inviting atmosphere.

The decision to utilise full wall tiles in the bathroom has not only added a touch of elegance but also made maintenance a breeze. The seamless tiles create a visually cohesive and streamlined look throughout the space. The stunning black and white tile combination has elevated the bathroom’s aesthetic, imparting a sense of sophistication and visual appeal.

Our team completed this project over 8 weeks. All fittings come with the standard warranty provided by Reece, ensuring peace of mind for the client. In addition, the workmanship is backed by a one-year guarantee, and the waterproofing carries a remarkable 15-year warranty.
